Storm & Water Damage Drywall in Gulfport, MS

Water is the reason most Gulfport sheetrock gets replaced. Roof leaks under wind-driven rain, AC condensate lines dripping into a ceiling, a shower wall that stayed damp all summer. This hub covers the rebuilds: water-damaged walls and ceilings, hurricane and storm repairs, mold-resistant replacement in wet rooms, and the documentation your insurance claim needs.
Water Damaged Drywall & Ceiling Replacement
A brown ring on the ceiling is never just a stain. By the time it shows, the gypsum above it has been wet long enough to lose its strength, and in Gulfport humidity the paper face is already growing something. Gulfport Drywall Repair removes water damaged sheetrock, dries what is behind it, and rebuilds the wall or ceiling with board that suits the room.

Every Gulf Coast homeowner knows the sequence. The storm passes, the power comes back, and a week later the ceiling in the back bedroom starts to sag. Wind-driven rain gets in at the roof edge, the soffit, or a lifted shingle, soaks the insulation, and works down into the drywall. Gulfport Drywall Repair rebuilds storm-damaged walls and ceilings from Waveland to Pascagoula, and documents every step for the claim.

A Gulfport bathroom spends eight months a year above 70 percent humidity. Standard paper-faced drywall in that room, behind a shower without a fan, softens, bubbles, and grows mold behind the paint without a single dramatic leak. Gulfport Drywall Repair replaces those walls with mold- and moisture-resistant board and puts the ventilation problem on the estimate so it does not happen again.

If you own a house on the coast you have filed a claim, or you will. Wind, a storm-driven roof leak, a burst supply line, a failed water heater. Gulfport Drywall Repair writes estimates the way adjusters read them: every wall and ceiling as a line item with square footage, board type, texture, and paint called out, with photos of the damage and the opened cavity.

Stop the water. Meter the framing. Cut out everything that reads wet or shows mold, usually to the nearest stud or joist. Pull wet insulation. Dry the cavity with air movement, not by closing it up. Treat the framing. Then, and only then, hang the right board, tape, coat, texture, prime, paint. Every step we skip is a step you pay for again next hurricane season. We do not skip them.
Flood cuts, and why they are two or four feet
After surge or standing water, drywall is cut horizontally two feet or four feet above the floor, above the water line, in one clean line. It wastes less material than patching a wavy line and gives the new board a full seam to tape. A lot of houses between Waveland and Pascagoula still have a flood cut behind the paint from 2005. We do the same thing after a burst line or a failed water heater.
Humidity is a slow leak
Gulfport summers keep indoor humidity high enough that a bathroom without a working exhaust fan, or a laundry with a dryer vent leak, will soften paper-faced drywall over a couple of years without any single leak. We see it as bubbling paint low on the wall and a musty smell. The fix is mold-resistant board plus the ventilation that should have been there, and we say so on the estimate.
Common questions on Storm & Water Damage Drywall
How long does a water-damaged ceiling take to fix?
Cut-out and drying is day one, sometimes two if the cavity is soaked. New board, tape, and coats take three or four short visits because each coat has to dry, then texture and paint. Roughly a week from first visit to painted ceiling for a typical bedroom.
Will insurance cover the drywall?
Sudden events, a burst pipe, wind damage, a storm-driven roof leak, usually are covered. Long-term humidity damage usually is not. We document either way and you take it to your adjuster.
Can you dry it out or do I need a restoration company?
A single wet wall or ceiling section we open and dry ourselves. A flooded floor across several rooms is a job for a water mitigation company first; we rebuild after they pull out.
